Synopsis

Young Craig Sorley witnesses a brutal suicide when a madman steps before a speeding train. Worse yet, he glimpsed the occult symbol that was carved into the lunatic's chest: the Pestem Malum. It possesses those who gaze upon it with a hellish force and compels them to replicate it and expose others. The symbol drives Craig to violent psychosis, incarceration and death.

Decades later, his sister, Jenny, returns to clean out their childhood home. Her daughter stumbles upon an image of the Pestem Malum hidden inside a book that’s soon disposed of. The next day, the young girl becomes obsessed with replicating the marking. Driven by the horrific memory of what happened to Craig, Jenny and her remaining family fight to save the child from the rune’s dark possession and the terrible plague it threatens to unleash on the world.

“Dark Plague is a chilling exploration of possession and the spread of an unearthly evil through the Pestem Malum, an occult symbol that, once seen, cannot be unseen. Like Paimon in Hereditary, or the spirit hand in Talk to Me, the Pestem Malum seeks to infiltrate the subconscious, dominate the soul, and drive its host to violence before leaping to its next victim. Only those who understand its dark origins can hope to contain its insatiable hunger.”
